APL Writers Performing “Life Changing Moments” at Christopher Heights

The Public is invited to join the APL Writers at Christopher Heights on Thursday, May 23 from 6:30-8pm for “Life Changing Moments: Challenges and Triumphs.” Select members of the group will be reading their stories of incredible real-life challenges and triumphs. This work has been inspired by the work of Frank Sawyer, visually impaired writer and creator of the Nathaniel Thomas Mill Waterwheel.

Light refreshments will be provided, as well as the uplifting music of the Triboro Bluegrass Gospel Jam. Everyone will take home a small token of the APL Writer’s gratitude.

The APL Writers met Frank after they had done “A Literary Symphony,” inspired by the Big Read 2018 at Christopher Heights. There they met resident Frank Sawyer, Jr. APL Writers coordinator, Bernadine Veiga had the privilege of personally talking with this amazing blind gentleman. In a thank you letter, Activity Director, Nancy McKinnon stated that “He was so inspired that he had started to write his story.” She included his writing in the letter. His construction projects, with their incredible challenges, so mirrored that of the characters in The Big Read 2018, that Bernadine regularly visited him after he left Christopher Heights, spending time on his story before he moved to Tennessee. A promise was made that his story would be told, ensuring his legacy will live to inspire others who face challenges. Frank passed away at 77 years old on December 10, 2018. At this event, one of our writers will read excerpts of his story.

Listeners will surely be inspired as we all encounter Life -Changing Moments. Register for this FREE inspirational event on our calendar page or by calling 508-222-0157. Additional parking will be available in the Sun Chronicle parking lot.
