YOUR Library Welcomes FitDesks for Tweens and Teens!

With the support of last year’s Library Services and Technology Act grant (LSTA) the APL was able to purchase three FitDesks for the library, providing the opportunity for youth to get some light exercise as they study. A FitDesk is a stationary bike equipped with an adjustable desk top to hold your study materials, book or tablet. While reading, studying or surfing the internet on their device, users are able to peddle and get some light exercise!

There are numerous benefits of light exercise which include increased energy levels and focus, as well as improved heart health and weight loss. According to a studying conducted by the Mayo Clinic, the average American is sedentary on average 21 hours a day, adding in some light exercise while studying can help keep youth active and healthy. For all of these reasons the staff at the APL has decided to invest in these FitDesks. Two of the desks will be available for use by middle school age youth in the children’s room of the library, while the third desk will be available for use by teens on the 2nd floor.

Youth are encouraged to stop by and try out the desks! They are a great way to stay healthy in the New Year!
