Summer is in full swing, the kids are out of school, family has come to visit, and you are looking for budget-friendly, all-ages entertainment. You have tried DVDs and traditional board games, why not try something new that engages your mind and your imagination, without breaking your checkbook – Role Playing Games (RPGs)! Join us on Thursday evening, July 23rd for an information session and then play some games a week later on Thursday, July 30th.

Role Playing Games (RPGs) aren’t like many other games, as there aren’t any winners or losers. Rather, they are cooperative, storytelling adventures that are created and designed by you. Rule books help guide your adventure into a fictional realm, but imagination is the most important element. The players create their own characters, experiencing the adventure through those characters’ eyes as they travel through exciting settings and overcome challenges. RPGs are perfect for families because they can be adjusted for a variety of ages and interests (fairy tales, SciFi, fantasy, etc.) and don’t require a lot (or in some cases, any) special purchases. Not to mention that cooperative storytelling is a fun way for kids to learn about teamwork, problem solving, and social interaction.

The Attleboro Public Library is presenting a two part series on Role Playing Games, with Sam Pearson of Battleground Games and Hobbies. Since opening their first location in Abington over a decade ago, Battleground has been providing all kinds of tabletop gaming products and events. Their Plainville location has continued that tradition for the past five years, growing into a vibrant and welcoming local community. Sam is both a store employee and a member of that community, and has been playing and teaching Role Playing Games for 15 years. He uses the skills he learned as a Creative Writing major at Wheaton College (and a lifetime of daydreams) to create engaging stories for friends and customers alike.
