Summer Reading 2023!

Summer Reading Program at APL: June 15 – August 16
Theme: Find Your Voice!

Communitywide Summer Reading Kickoff
Thursday, June 15, 1:30-3PM
Balfour Riverwalk Park

Visit Balfour Riverwalk Park on the last day of school for this fun, free event.

Sign up for the Summer Reading Program and enjoy games, activities, and a parade for everyone to join! Community partners like the Attleboro Public Schools, Attleboro Norton YMCA, the Project Connect Family Center, and the Attleboro Land Trust will make this an afternoon to read-member! (In case of rain, activities will take place inside the Library.)

Children (Families with Children age 3 through entering 4th grade)

How to participate!
Visit the Children’s Room and pick up a reading log! Fill in a circle for every day that you read (or are read to) for at least 20 minutes or more.

Logging your reading time earns prizes:
– Ten (10) days of reading for 20 minutes or more: A book plate in a book in the Children’s Room.
– Twenty-five (25) days of reading for 20 minutes or more: A Star Reader lawn sign! WOW!
– Forty (40) or more days of reading for 20 minutes or more: Your child will be entered into a prize drawing.

A complete list of all programs, special events, and take-home kits may be found here.

Tweens/Teens (Youth entering 5th-12th grades)

There are two ways to participate:

[1] Log your reading online using a Google form. Log at least 300 minutes of reading over the summer to be entered into the grand prize drawing! The first twenty-five (25) youth to log their 300 minutes of reading will also receive an APL Star Reader lawn sign (one per family).

Access the Google form here or by using this QR code:

[2] Visit the library to get your daily scratch ticket! Drop by the Children’s Room desk to claim your scratch ticket. Your ticket might be an instant winner, which gives you the opportunity to select from among school tools, a gift card, a book, or candy. All non-winning tickets may be filled out and returned to enter into an exciting grand prize drawing at the end of the summer.

There are so many in-person activities for youth this summer: book clubs, craft programs, bingo, and more! Click here for a list of events happening June 15-July 13; click here for events happening July 20-August 18. Registration is required for most in-person programs, so please visit the Events page to register and for more information about each program.

We haven’t forgotten our “oldest” summer readers! We’ve created a book bingo card that is both fun and challenging–and gives the first 20 individuals who achieve a bingo (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) to win a prize. Keep completing bingos throughout the summer in order to be entered into the grand prize drawing.

And here is our Crafternoon lineup through the end of August! We’ve added some Thursday evening dates in addition to the typical Friday and Saturday sessions.

MBLC’s Share Your Summer Stories Initiative

Finally, share your summer reading adventures with us! Summer at the library means a chance to explore new interests and enjoy reading during the beautiful summer months! Tell us your library success story. Did you learn a new skill or hobby? Meet new people? Attend an amazing program or event? Did your child(ren) fall in love with reading? Let us know! Upload a photo, video, or story and inspire others with your library success story using the QR code on this flyer! The MBLC will use these stories to help stakeholders understand the value and importance of summer library programs.

This year’s summer reading program is sponsored by the Attleboro Public Library, the Friends of Attleboro Public Library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, Find Your Voice © 2023 iREAD
