Disability Pride Month is a time to celebrate and amplify the accomplishments, experiences, and history of the disability community. Promoting inclusion, equity, and awareness during July and beyond helps to educate communities about the experiences of individuals living with disabilities, resulting in the creation of safer, more inclusive, and enriching life experiences for all. One local nonprofit organization in Attleboro is working to do just that.
Cecelia’s Adventures is a 501(c)(3) organization, started by Matt and Derrah in honor of their daughter Cecelia, who is diagnosed with Down Syndrome. The family is deeply appreciative of the support they received from agencies like the Kennedy Donovan Center, inspiring them to find a way to give back and create opportunities for others living with disabilities. Learn more about the amazing work they do to support individuals in the Attleboro area by watching this video!
Of course, the Library staff work hard to create inclusive collections that reflect the experiences and lives of our community members. Below are some wonderful titles written by and/or featuring individuals living with disabilities. Looking for more? Contact the Children’s or Reference departments for more suggestions!
