Summer Reading begins June 15!

Summer reading is a favorite time of year at APL, so we are delighted to launch the Find Your Voice! Summer Reading Program at the Communitywide Summer Reading Kickoff on Thursday, June 15 (i.e., the last day of school!) from 1:30-3:00PM in Balfour Park. In addition to signing up for the APL Summer Reading Program, the kickoff will include crafts, activities, and a parade. Staff from Attleboro Public Schools, Attleboro Norton YMCA, the Project Connect Family Center, and Attleboro Land Trust will be there as well to add to the fun!

During the eight weeks of summer reading, we are making the Library the greatest place to read, learn, discover, and enjoy. Find your voice via a wide array of free activities and events for children, tweens, teens, and adults to encourage and support a love of reading. Participants can win prizes for reaching their reading goals! Programs and special events include an interactive music program for families, BINGO for tweens and teens, and adult Crafternoons! Check out the Events tab to find out about all the programs being offered.

If you’re looking for titles on your school’s summer reading list, APL has multiple displays with copies of these books. If your child is entering grades 1-8 in the Attleboro Public Schools, the displays will be in the Children’s Room, whereas the high school lists will be available via displays in our third-floor young adult section.

There’s also a serious side to summer reading. Research has shown that reading during the summer prevents summer reading loss and offsets the dreaded summer slide. Studies also indicate students who read recreationally outperformed those who don’t. Students read more when they can choose materials based on their interests. As such, APL is committed to supporting lifelong learning for all children, youth, adults, and families.

Registration begins at the kickoff on June 15, and continues through the end of July. To learn more about YOUR summer reading adventure at the library, come on by and visit, or check out our Summer Reading page (it has its own tab at the top of the home page) at attleborolibrary.org.
