We are excited to announce that this year’s selected book is Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson! Attleboro’s 1ABC committee believes readers are going to love this wild ride into an almost real world where strong emotions truly heat things up.
UPCOMING EVENTS
The final event of the READS! program is on Monday, May 6, from 6:30-7:30pm at the Library. Ben Quelle, director of Attleboro’s Veterans Services office, will read the picture book Veterans: Heroes in Our Neighborhood. Stick around after the reading and make a fun craft with Mrs. Brown. Kids in grades 1-4, don’t forget to bring your reading passport to be stamped!
PREVIOUS EVENTS
A free basketball clinic for youth in grades K-6 during was held at the Attleboro Norton YMCA during school vacation week on February 21. Almost 60 youth enjoyed instruction and drills from varsity basketball players from Attleboro High and Bishop Feehan High Schools. The fun on-and off-courts skills they learned will make them better, more well-rounded players. And to make things even better, Mrs. Brown attended to talk about the Library and hand out free books for each participant. Check out some event photos from our Facebook page. This could not have been achieved without out wonderful Community Read partners!
The Stress Less, Read More event on November 18 brought twelve local organizations to APL to demonstrate ways they promote mental health and stress reduction, both key themes in Nothing to See Here. APL staff created curated booklists connected to the organizations’ services. Click on any of the links below to see these lists. We hope you will request/borrow these books!

This year’s Community Read kicked off on Saturday, September 9, at the Attleboro Arts Museum with Creature Comforts, an invitational exhibition inspired by toys owned by a character in Nothing to See Here, featuring portraits of stuffed animals. Selected artists shared how the creatures portrayed in a variety of media comforted, entertained, and became important members of their family. Check out some event photos from our Facebook page.

READ-ALIKES
Here is a list of read-alikes to Nothing to See Here, with choices for adults, young adults, and children.
CHILDREN’S READING PASSPORT
APL and its partners have created a reading passport specifically for children in grades 1-4. Attending a reading event at the Library or other community-based organization earns a child a stamp in their passport. As part of the Community Read, the Library has created a monthly guest reader program (November 2023 – May 2024), where a representative from a local organization will read a picture book and lead a craft opportunity connected to the theme of the book. Children who fill their passports entirely with stamps will receive recognition at next year’s Summer Reading Kickoff! Please ask for a copy in the Children’s Room if your child didn’t receive one from their elementary school.
