June has been a busy month at APL, what with the beginning of summer reading, working with partners throughout the city, and getting used to the early heat! However, what has also kept us busy has been all of the Pride-based events we have created and participated in. Here are some highlights:
– Displays on all three floors highlighting LGBTQ+ authors and characters.
– Participating in Attleboro’s annual Flag Raising and Pride Walk to kick off the month and meeting so many new neighbors and community members.
– Hosting two book-sharing programs for adults on June 10, led by the Attleboro Council on Human Rights; and June 24, led by Darcie, the APL’s Reader Services Coordinator. This event was a book “tasting,” highlighting the many LGBTQIA+ titles published in multiple genres over the past 18 months.
– Making pins with PRIDE designs using the new button machine, with designs created by the community and APL staff. These were a big hit, and we ran out the middle of last week!
And even though Pride month is nearing its end, that doesn’t mean we stop celebrating you at the APL! You will continue to see yourself in the collections and programming; and our commitment to creating a safe space for you to enjoy, educate yourself, and most importantly, thrive, will never waver.
