On Thursday, December 8, at 7pm, authors Carol Cujec and Peyton Goddard will be joining us virtually to discuss their middle-grade fiction novel, Real. This fantastic novel was chosen as
the middle-grade companion title to this year’s NEA Big Read title Sitting Pretty: The View from
My Ordinary Resilient Disabled Body by Rebekah Taussig for its messages of inclusion and focus
on ability. Inspired by a true story, Real introduces readers to Charity, a young person
diagnosed with non-verbal autism.
Shadow Mountain Publishing has provided this description of the book:
My name is Charity. I am thirteen years old. Actually, thirteen years plus eighty-seven days. I
love sour gummies and pepperoni pizza. That last part no one knows because I have not
spoken a sentence since I was born. Each dawning day, I live in terror of my unpredictable body
that no one understands….
Inspired by a true story, Real speaks to all those who’ve ever felt they didn’t belong and reminds readers that all people are worthy of being included.
Join us on December 8 to hear more about Real and how this wonderful work of fiction came
together through the collaboration of these two authors. Copies of Real are available on display
on the first floor of the Attleboro Public Library; all ages are welcome at this virtual presentation!
Although this novel is middle-grade fiction, it speaks to audiences of all ages. Click HERE to register and receive the meeting link!
