NEA Big Read Attleboro begins on September 10!

We are so excited by this year’s community read title, Sitting Pretty: The View from My Ordinary Resilient Disabled Body, a memoir-in-essays by author Rebekah Taussig. The focus this year is on ability and disability awareness, how disability affects us all, and how we can effect societal and cultural change regarding the current viewpoint of people with visible (or invisible) disabilities.

A series of more than 30 events will occur over the course of an eight-month period (September 2022 – April 2023), with multiple partners throughout Attleboro and neighboring cities. Please visit the Attleboro’s 1ABC web site to see the events, our partners, videos and interviews about the book, and much more.

Our official launch and kickoff will occur on Saturday, September 10, from 2-4PM at the Attleboro Arts Museum, where the art exhibit Reframed, where invited artists, many of whom identify as having a physical disability, will allow viewers to explore their art and life narrative. Hands-on activities, music, and copies of the book will also be available. Sharing a book with friends and neighbors helps to build and deepen relationships, and we hope that you will join us over the course of the next eight months to join the conversation and be illuminated.

NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
