Children’s Book Week is a biannual event and in 2021 it will take place May 3-9 and November 8-14! Children’s Book Week, established in 1919, is not only a celebration of books, but of connection. This celebration of children’s literature unites kids and adults with books, authors, and illustrators in order to foster a love of reading. This year’s celebration, hosted by Children’s Book Council (CBC) and Every Child a Reader, CBC’s charitable arm, will follow the theme “Reading Is a Superpower”.
This year the CBC re-imagined their celebration and developed the Superpower Challenge! This challenge, offered both in the spring & fall, will consist of a variety of themed activities in different categories to help kids discover their own superpowers and tap into their interests. During Children’s Book Week kids & families can complete challenges in categories such as STEM, the arts, social activism, physical fitness and more. At the bottom of the Superpower Challenge webpage, Every Child a Reader also offers booklists with featuring diverse characters, creators, and topics about superpowers that can give ideas, inspiration, or be simply entertaining.
